Chapter 5

Kash

I calmed down after the elevator, I carried Mari into my suite and rushed to the bed, pinning her beneath me. But I could feel her emotions, she seemed to have a fog blurring her thoughts.

Not wanting to push something that needs to be one hundred percent perfect, we backed away. To my shock my tiger was the one to slow us, he wants her to be fully ready and prepared for the knotting.

Because we will knot her.

But only when she’s ready.

She’s laying on the small sofa now, curled up with her knees pulled in and is telling me how she came to stay at the Monster Resort.

“And so I came here, not really sure where else to go because I sure as hell wasn’t staying with my family for the rest of the year.”

“I must say I’m glad with how things unfolded, though I know it caused you pain.”

“Worth it.” Her smile lights up her face and brings a giant grin to mine.

We are already so attached, the bonding will go smoothly, my tiger says, I nod unconsciously.

“Are you talking with him? Your tiger, I mean.”

“Yes, he said we’re already attached to you and that the bonding will go smoothly.” She smiles again and nods her head.

“What’s it like? Are you both always having a conversation with one another?”

“Not at all. He’s similar to an animal, there are some coherent thoughts, but mostly it’s strong emotions that drive his actions. Those emotions can affect me too, like earlier when I saw you in the elevator after searching for you all day.”

She’s looking at me, listening to every word I say. “If I would have followed you to your room, you would have been hurt. He would have claimed you with no questions asked. That is not how I want to start our relationship.”

She’s nodding her head. “I’ve got to admit, you not following me, hurt. A lot. But now that you’ve explained it, I do understand.”

She moves to walk toward me standing against the door frame of the bathroom, putting her small hands on my chest.

“Could I meet him? Or… how does that work exactly?”

My tiger purrs so loudly it comes out of my own lungs too.

Mari giggles and rubs my chest. “I take that as a yes? I’d love to meet him. So he’s, like literally a saber tooth tiger? So are they not really extinct?”

“Sadly the extinction part is true. And there are so few of us shifters left, it’s just my dad and brother that we know of.”

“There’s no other saber tooth shifters outside of your family? That’s heartbreaking. What happened? Why are there no more of you?”

After telling her our history, what little we know, her eyes look heavy.

The nightstand clock reads 2:36.

“I think it’s time we go to bed, my pet. We’ll talk more in the morning.” I see her mouth about to open, ready to protest. “No arguments. Let’s go.”

I swoop her up, causing her to squeal. After moving the sheets I lay her on the mattress and scoot under the covers next to her, pulling her back against my chest.
